Molecular cytogenetics of Dictyoloma vandellianum A. Juss. and the ancestral karyotype of Rutaceae

Determination of the chromosome base number a taxon is fundamental to understanding karyotypic variation and its implications for evolution that group. This usually requires careful evaluation cytological literature robust phylogenetic support. The family Rutaceae (x = 9 or x 18) has long been subject debate. Here, we analyzed banding pattern, rDNA sites, genome size Dictyoloma vandellianum, subfamily Cneoroideae, sister group remaining Rutaceae, revised critical points about family. We found this species n 9, which differs from 18 possessed by other cytologically known Cneoroideae species. Thus, occurs in main clades most probable hypothesis as no longer sustainable, although very common Rutaceae. Moreover, fluorescent pattern relatively large (1C 1.3 pg) D. vandellianum suggest chromosomal organization highly divergent Aurantieae, only clade where with are greatly dominant.
